Korean War Veterans Day Ceremony

Reception in honour of the Korean War
On 1 October, a delegation of the board has been invited to this reception by the ambassador. This year for the first time on this date, in Korea the 'Day of the Armed Forces', so very appropriate.
It was again an impressive gathering, partly because some veterans were honoured with the appointment as "Ambassador for Peace", accompanied by a beautiful medal and a certificate. Mrs. Park performed the national anthems from Korea and the Netherlands.

One of the speakers during the official part was Mr. Ben Bot, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and former diplomat. He now spoke in his capacity as chairman of the Carnegie Foundation. This foundation manages the Peace Palace in The Hague. The subject of speech was 'peace'. In order to achieve this, three elements are important: ideals, ideas and action. Ideals to know where you want to go, ideas to know how to reach them, and then you have to act. He focused this on the developments with regard to North and South Korea.

There also was a speech by the ambassador, HE Yun Young Lee and the chairman of the Old Korea Warriors Association, Mr. Paul Gommers. The latter dealt among other things with the reception that we had organized for the Korean students during the Commemoration Day on August 24th. .It ended with a delicious Korean buffet with a Dutch touch.
